Tattooing Tips
TATTOOS: Here is a little trick I use every year when tattooing my kids....I am so nervous that I will tattoo the wrong info in the wrong ear! This simple little card helps me out.
Right Ear: Your farm id goes in the right ear, mine is LHF.
Left Ear: The year letter (2016 is H) + the number assigned to that kid, goes in the left ear. I simply number them in order that they are born. H1, H2, H3, and so on.
I only have one set of letters, and one tattooer, so, I switch out my letters often. Having a note card handy is helpful to test the tattoo on, before putting it on the kid. I also use green ink. It seems to show up better on my dark colored kids, as well as my white. The 5/16" size tattoos seem to be perfect for my Pygoras.
