Using Tubs & Colanders for washing fleeces:
A while back someone in a sheep group online suggested these rubber tubs to wash fleeces in. I have always used mesh bags for washing my fleeces, they work great, but there were several things I really liked about the idea of using these tubs. One, the inner basket could easily be lifted out of the water and set aside while the wash water was being changed. Second, the fleece has more room in the water to float around. Third, I could lay a blanket or towel over the tub to help hold the water temperature longer.
What brand are the totes: Tuff Stuff Products. Flex Tub & Flex Sieve Colander.
Size: While they come in different sizes the 5 gallon colander works perfectly inside the 12 gallon tub.
Where to find the totes: I found mine at my local Tractor Supply, but you can also find them on line.
Wash: Ovus Paste (also found at TSC) I just follow the directions for washing in a tub. Depending on the fleece, it may take more washes than others. Generally, two washes, two rinses, each 30 minutes or so long, depending on how fast the water temperature is cooling. Keeping a towel or blanket over the tub will help hold the water temperature steady.
